I own four dogs that keep me on my toes. As one of the many dysfunctional veterans out there, I’m always looking for Tactical Dog Gear for my pooches. However, I decided to treat myself to a piece of Tactical Dog Gear for myself for a change in the form of the epic Zero Bark Thirty Shirt!
This shirt is definitely a conversation starter. The Zero Bark Thirty shirt is named after the classic Katheryn Bigalow movie: Zero Dark Thirty which tells the story of the almost decade-long manhunt for Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden following the September 11 attacks. The manhunt spanned the entire earth and culminated in a violent finale on May 2nd, 2011, when US special forces raided Bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad and killed him.
The K9 decked out in tactical dog gear on the Zero Bark Thirty shirt is none other than Conan! Not the barbarian, but the Belgian Malinois dog who was a vital team member during the operation in Barisha in Syria in October 2019. During the raid, the infamous Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, then-leader of the infamous terror organization ISIS, was killed after Conan gave chase to him down a tunnel which forced Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to detonate a suicide vest he was wearing.
Shortly after the raid, President Donald Trump Tweeted a declassified photo of Conan. The dog’s name was classified but the name Conan came about on the US show Newsweek. where is was was named after Conan O’Brien due to them both sharing a feature of shaggy hair. A few days after the raid, President Trump posted a meme on Twitter that shows a photoshopped image of President Trump awarding Conan with a canine version of the Medal of Honor which had been dubbed ”the Medal of Pawner.”
In November 2019, Conan and his military dog handler were invited to meet President Trump at the White House in Washington. Interestingly, in a possible homage to the original Conan, the Barbarian played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the military dog handler issued commands to Conan in German throughout the event.
As no one can resist a good doggo, the event at the White House was also attended by Melania Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, the latter of whom stroked Conan and called him ”a hero”. Also present at the event were US special forces operatives who took part in the operation that killed Badhadi, however, they were not seen by the press due to reasons of national security as they were still actively engaged with operations.
So this is Conan. Right now, probably the world’s most famous dog,– President Trump
Trump’s Tweets and Conan’s feature on Newsweek led to widespread attention being placed on the dog. In the weeks and months following the raid, “Zero Bark Thirty slogan began to appear all over the internet. This subsequently led to a variety of branded Tactical Dog Gear being released as well as t-shirts like the Zero Bark Thirty shirt I’m wearing right now.
